Thibaud Boudignon’s Savennieres and Anjou Chenin rank among the best in the world, and Clos Devant le Jeu is one of his most exciting newer sites. The two-hectare clos sits on warm, south-facing slopes of shallow grey schist with a touch of sand. Thibaud planted it in stages beginning in 2020, using massale selections drawn from some of the Loire’s finest estates rather than commercial clones, the kind of detail that defines him as a vigneron in the truest sense. Like all his wines, this is farmed organically and made almost entirely in the vineyard. The schist gives the wine its structure, its grip, and a distinct mineral signature that will only sharpen as the young vines mature.
