Gump Hof’s vineyards climb the steep slopes of Alto Adige’s Isarco Valley from around 1,150 to 1,800 feet the kind of altitude that makes Sauvignon Blanc sing. Warm Ora winds blow up from Lake Garda by day, while cold Dolomite air drops down at night, locking in aromatic intensity and crackling acidity. The Praesulis Sauvignon, from the estate’s top sites, lands somewhere between Sancerre and the Loire’s racier outliers: green herbs and citrus over a stony, alpine spine. Markus Prackwieser took over from his father in 2000 and has been quietly turning out some of the most precise whites in the region ever since.
