Les Combettes sits at the far northern edge of Puligny, sharing a fence line with Meursault’s Charmes and that border is the whole story. Of all Leflaive’s premier crus, this one carries the most Meursault-style flesh and weight while keeping Puligny’s mineral cut. The domaine farms 0.73 hectares here, biodynamically, at mid-slope on stony limestone, and the wine that results is broad in the mouth, fragrant with honey and white flowers, and structured to age. In Brice de la Morandire’s hands, it is one of the most ageable and complete wines in the Leflaive lineup. A premier cru that drinks with the volume of something grander.
