Same founding parcel, completely different wine. Marnes Blanches takes Chardonnay and Savagnin off En Quatre Vis, ferments them on their skins with whole clusters for about two weeks, then leaves the wine 22 months in large wooden foudres. The result is a skin-macerated white with genuine grip — tannin you can feel — plus the marl-driven tension the domaine is known for. It’s tight on opening and rewards air, a decanter and some patience, and it can happily sit in a cellar for years. If you’ve written off skin-contact wine as all funk and no framework, this is the counterargument.
