Here’s a fun one to spring on a wine-nerd friend: this Chardonnay comes from the village of Chardonnay. That’s right, there’s a town in the Maconnais that (by legend) gave the grape its name, and this bottle is made from its fruit. The Chavy family are respected names up in Puligny-Montrachet, and this is their debut vintage working the village of Chardonnay’s vineyards from their Puligny cellar. They raised it entirely in stainless steel to keep the fruit bright and pure, no oak coloring things in. It’s a lot of white Burgundy pedigree for a wine that drinks this easy.
