Ardbeg BizarreBQ is a limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky built for the barbecue pit. Dr Bill Lumsden, the distillery’s head of whisky creation, developed it with barbecue chef Christian ‘DJ BBQ’ Stevenson, combining three cask types double-charred oak, Pedro Ximnez sherry, and heavily charred ‘BBQ’ casks and bottling the result non-chill filtered at 50.9% ABV. The peat reads like a live grill: charcoal and soot on the nose with treacle toffee and hickory-smoked ham, then chilli-rubbed ribs, flame-grilled steak, and clove across the palate into a long, sooty finish. A one-time 2023 release, BizarreBQ moves quickly when bottles surface. Pour it outdoors beside something slow-smoked this is a Scotch that stands next to the food rather than waiting for after.
