Eighteen years of Speyside maturation stand behind Aberlour 18 Year Old, a single malt Scotch built for people who like sherry in their whisky. Aberlour matures it in a pairing of oak and Oloroso sherry casks and bottles it at 43%, the double-cask approach that gives the range its dried-fruit signature. Expect ripe orchard fruit and orange zest over toffee and plum jam on the nose, then a palate of apricot, chocolate-coated raisin, liquorice root and grated nutmeg. The finish is long and quietly sweet. This is an after-dinner malt: pour it neat in a copita, add a few drops of water if you want the sherry to bloom, and give it time.
