Released for Ardbeg Day during Feis Ile 2019, Ardbeg Drum is an Islay single malt Scotch aged first in ex-bourbon barrels, then finished in ex-rum casks. The rum cask sets this general release apart, bottled at 92 proof: ripe banana, pineapple, and cocoa sit over the distillery’s signature woodsmoke, with slow hints of ginger, cinnamon, and lavender. The palate turns spicier black pepper, clove, and liquorice against dark chocolate and deep peat before a long, sweet-and-smoky finish. One of Islay’s most sought-after annual bottlings, it drinks best neat with a few drops of water to lift the fruit. Pour it when you want peat with a tropical twist.
