Shea Vineyard is one of Oregon’s most famous addresses, draped across the sedimentary hills of Yamhill-Carlton, and Cody Wright (son of Oregon Pinot pioneer Ken Wright) sources from one of its higher-elevation blocks for this bottling. Cody founded Purple Hands in 2005 after training as an environmental scientist, and his Pinots have developed a reputation for marrying the lift of a cool site with real depth of fruit. The 2023 is aged in a thoughtful percentage of French oak, with the marine-sediment soils giving the wine a saline lift that keeps the dark fruit honest. Drink it now alongside a roast, or hold it for a decade.
