La Croix sits just next to the famous Cross of Corton on the east/south-east slope in Aloxe-Corton, from 70+ year-old vines, and in Pierre Girardin’s hands it makes a case for itself as one of the hill’s most refined expressions. Vincent Girardin’s son has built his ngoce around long-lieu sourcing and a deft, restrained touch in the cellar and at the Grand Cru level, that restraint pays off. This is Corton-Charlemagne with the volume turned down a notch and the detail turned all the way up.
