The Prackwieser family has farmed Gump Hof for over two centuries, perched on steep southwest-facing slopes above the Eisack Valley in Alto Adige. Markus took the reins in the mid-1990s and built a reputation for some of the most precise whites in the region. This Weissburgunder (Pinot Bianco) comes from quartz porphyry soils between roughly 1,300 and 1,800 feet, where daytime warmth from the Ora wind off Lake Garda meets cold alpine air spilling down from the Dolomites. The result is a wine of striking clarity and tension. There is orchard fruit and a chalky, mineral lift, with the energy you want from mountain-grown Pinot Bianco. A go-to for the table.
