Chteau Suduiraut is one of the great Premier Crus of Sauternes, owned today by AXA Millsimes. Because the Sauternes appellation can only produce sweet wine, the estate’s dry white wears a Bordeaux Blanc label, but the source is exactly that same hallowed slope of vines next to Yquem. Lions de Suduiraut is the accessible dry cuvee, a Smillon-dominant blend with Sauvignon Blanc and a touch of Sauvignon Gris, raised partly in barrel for texture. The 2023 is precise and lifted with citrus, white florals and a saline, gently honeyed edge, and it makes a strong case that dry whites from Sauternes deserve more attention than they get.
