Fierce & Kind is a San Diego outfit minority- and woman-founded, employee- and customer-owned that routes a quarter of its profits into its own foundation, which would be a nice story attached to a forgettable bottle if the liquid weren’t good. It is. Distilled six times from sustainably grown American corn, it has the faintly sweet, creamy texture corn does well, and a soft clean finish with none of the ethanol burn that sends people reaching for the mixer. Drink it very cold and straight, or build a martini, a mule, or a vodka soda on top of it it’s a workhorse with a conscience.
