The Nahe is known for three names: Donnhoff, Schafer-Frohlich, and Emrich-Schonleber. The first two have been chased in the States for decades. The third stayed a secret among German wine obsessives, which is the only reason a bottle this good is still findable. The Niederberg is slate and quartzite, classified Erste Lage, and Emrich-Schonleber ferments it dry with native yeasts in stainless steel. The family has been in Monzingen for over 250 years, and this is what all that time sounds like: citrus peel, spice, grippy texture, and a finish that just keeps going.
