The Sautereau family has been making wine in Crezancy, just southwest of Sancerre, since 1683 – ten generations now, with David Sautereau currently in charge. The vines span Crezancy, Bue, and Sancerre, on a mix of caillottes (chalky pebbles), Kimmeridgian limestone, and clay, which gives the wine more layers than the typical entry-level Sancerre. The estate is finishing its conversion to organic certification with the 2024 vintage. This is honest, well-made Sancerre: bright citrus, gooseberry, a mineral cut, and a saline finish that begs for the next sip.
