When Domaine Leflaive ventured into Pouilly-Fuiss (first vintage 2013, as part of their Mconnais expansion that began in 2004), the goal was to bring biodynamic Puligny rigor to the Mconnais clay-limestone hills. La Chaneau is a steep, east-facing parcel tucked at the foot of the Roche de Solutr, planted between 1980 and 1995 on shallow clay-limestone soils that bottom out quickly on bedrock. The vines see the morning sun and finish ripening in cooler afternoon shade, which gives the wine its taut, citrus-toned profile. It is hand-harvested, pressed in the Mcon, then trucked daily up to Puligny for fermentation in barrel and levage in stainless. Where their En Vigneraie parcel leans warmer and rounder, La Chaneau is the cooler, more cut sibling Leflaive’s nervy, mineral side dialed up.
