Macvin is one of the Jura’s most charming oddities, a tradition that reaches back centuries. You take grape juice and stop it from fermenting by adding Marc du Jura, the region’s local grape brandy, so the result is sweet, fortified and gently boozy all at once. This Classique bottling from Domaine Labet, the celebrated family estate in Rotalier led by Julien Labet and his siblings, is built on the Jura’s white grapes and aged in old casks until it turns a deep, glowing gold. Expect orange zest, quince, dried fruit and a warming, brandied finish. Pour it cold as an aperitif or after dinner.
