A Spatlese in the classic Mosel sense: riper grapes, a little more sweetness, but kept perfectly in line by racy acidity. This comes off Clemens Busch’s storied Marienburg hill in Punderich, farmed biodynamically from old vines on slate. It’s a beautifully balanced, mid-weight Riesling where honeyed orchard fruit and citrus play against that signature stony tension, so the sweetness reads as juicy rather than heavy. Lovely now while it’s bright and floral, but these have a long history of aging gracefully too. A wine that proves a little sweetness can be one of Riesling’s great strengths.
