Phlan Sgur is one of Saint-Estphe’s most reliable estatesan unclassified estate (Phlan Sgur withdrew from the Cru Bourgeois system in 2010) sitting on the Gironde riverbank next door to Montrose. The 2016 carries special significance: it was the final vintage made under the Gardinier family, who had owned and rebuilt the property since 1985 before selling to Belgian investor Philippe Van de Vyvere in 2018. The vintage itself was one of Bordeaux’s modern greatsa wine of saturated color, classical Cabernet-led structure (55%), and the cassis, violet, and pencil-lead profile that Saint-Estphe lovers chase. Drinking well now and built to evolve through the 2040s.
