Napa Cabernet Franc that’s aiming at Chinon rather than at a steakhouse wine list. VENN is the second label from Young Inglewood, whose family has spent nearly twenty years stewarding benchland sites at the foot of the Mayacamas first planted in the 1870s the same stretch of Napa that made the region’s reputation. Here they turn the volume down: native fermentation, 22 days on skins, 20 months in mostly neutral French oak, no fining or filtration, and only 170 cases made. The result has the floral, leafy, mineral lift you’d want from a Loire Cab Franc, but with the ripe berry generosity that only California sunshine gives you. Honest, energetic, and genuinely drinkable which is a rarer thing in Napa than it should be.
