Wild Turkey Forgiven is a blend of 78% six-year-old bourbon and 22% four-year-old rye whiskies. Apparently initially produced due to a mix-up at the distillery, the result was so good they decided to release it.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Bourbon-led: cinnamon apples, pastries, toffee and caramel, alongside vanilla and dark cherries.
Taste: Rye-led: earthy and natural tasting. Apples, burnt toffee, wood char and vanilla, but with orange zest, allspice, nutmeg, leather and pepper.
Finish: Long, quite earthy and fairly drying.
“An accidental mingling of rye whiskey with bourbon, resulting in a product that acts like bourbon with an unusually high percentage of rye in the mashbill. It shows, with vibrant notes of warming cinnamon, fresh mint, nutmeg, licorice root, and a hint of tellicherry pepper. All this is soothed by vanilla, caramel, and subtle honeyed citrus. Lively, distinctive, and versatile.” – John Hansell, Whisky Advocate (87 Points)
