Virginia Distillery Co.’s Goose Island Bourbon County Stout Cask Finish is an American single malt with an imperial-stout education. Part of the Brewer’s Coalition series, the whisky spends more than five years in ex-bourbon casks before finishing in barrels that held Goose Island’s legendary Bourbon County Brand Stout just twenty of them for the 2025 edition. Made from 100% malted barley and bottled-in-bond at 100 proof, it pours mocha-forward and layered: dark chocolate and roasted malt up front, vanilla cream and toffee through the middle, coffee bean and molasses trailing a long, sweet-savory finish. A stout drinker’s whisky and a whisky drinker’s stout pour it neat after dinner and let it argue both sides.
