Madonna del Piano is Valdicava’s flagship Riserva a selection from the estate’s best parcels, aged longer in large Slavonian oak, and released only in great vintages. The 2006 is now squarely in its mature drinking window: a library-condition magnum from a classic, structured Brunello vintage that has aged into a tertiary symphony of dried cherry, leather, tobacco, and forest floor. This is what people mean when they talk about why Brunello can age for decades. Cellar-aged magnums of this caliber are increasingly rare on the market open it for an occasion that deserves one.
