Usquaebach Old Rare is a blended Scotch whisky named for the Gaelic uisge beatha the water of life, the phrase that gave us the word whisky. It leans hard on malt: roughly 85% single malts to 15% grain, with Highland whiskies up to twenty years old in the mix, which is unusually rich for a blend. Honey, malt, and citrus lead the nose; the palate turns to brown sugar and tropical fruit over toasted grain, chocolate, and vanilla, closing on caramel and a subtle curl of smoke. Bottled at 43% ABV, or 86 proof, in the brand’s signature ceramic flagon. Pour it neat as an after-dinner dram, or gift the flagon as-is it earns a spot on the shelf.
