Tom Bullock’s Burnt Orange Bourbon is a flavored Kentucky straight bourbon named for the St. Louis bartender who, in 1917, became the first Black American to publish a cocktail book. Henderson Spirits Group starts with four-year-old bourbon distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky, then infuses it with burnt orange rind a tribute to Bullock’s habit of flame-charring citrus peel for his drinks. The pour is sweet and citrus-forward: orange peel and tangerine up top, vanilla and baking spice behind, a short toasted-oak finish. Gently proofed, it sips easily over ice, but it belongs in an Old Fashioned, where the burnt orange does the garnish’s job from inside the glass.
