Eighteen years split between American oak and ex-sherry casks shape The Glenlivet 18 Year Old, a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky that stands as the house’s benchmark older dram. The extra time deepens the distillery’s signature orchard-fruit character into something darker baked banana and plum, toffee and dark chocolate on the nose, then charred orange, dried cranberry, and soft cinnamon over vanilla butterscotch. Sherry wood does the shading; American oak keeps the sweetness bright. Bottled at 40%, it stays gentle enough for a Scotch newcomer while carrying enough depth for the shelf of someone who owns a dozen Speysides. Give it a heavy tumbler and an unhurried hour, neat or with a few drops of water.
