The Dalmore King Alexander III is a Highland single malt Scotch matured in six different casks ex-bourbon, Matusalem oloroso sherry, Madeira, Marsala, port and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques then married into one rich pour. No other whisky in the distillery’s principal range takes cask curation this far, and the result reads like a dessert cart: red berries and passion fruit on the nose; citrus zest, vanilla pod and crme caramel across the palate; cinnamon and ginger on the way out. Bottled at 40% ABV, it stays plush rather than hot. Pour it neat after dinner for someone who thinks they already know what sherry casks can do.
