Terah Bajjalieh founded her small California label in 2020 after a sommelier-then-finance pivot and a master’s in enology from Montpellier, and her project from the start has been about underdog grapes farmed organically by small growers. The Barbera comes from Shake Ridge Ranch in Amador County Ann Kraemer’s iconic Sierra Foothills site, where Barbera was among the varieties the Kraemer family planted in the 2000s. Bajjalieh works with minimal intervention, letting Barbera’s natural high acidity and dark fruit do the talking. The 2024 is bright, fresh, and food-friendly: a low-intervention take on California’s most Italian-feeling red grape.
