Guidalberto comes from Tenuta San Guido, the Bolgheri estate behind Sassicaia that more or less invented the Super Tuscan, and it long ago outgrew the baby-Sassicaia label people hung on it. The 2023 is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, a slightly bigger Merlot share than the estate’s usual 60/40, and the Cabernet was superb. Fifteen months in barrique leaves it polished but lively, with more red fruit than black and enough freshness that the concentration never turns heavy. Give it half an hour in a decanter and it’s ready tonight. It will also sit happily for the better part of a decade.
