Lou Preston planted Rhne varieties in Dry Creek Valley back when Sonoma’s reflex answer to a sunny hillside was still Cabernet or Zinfandel. The estate has been farmed organically and biodynamically (Demeter certified in 2015) across a patchwork of parcels that also produce bread, olive oil and vegetables. This Grenache is the bright, lifted member of the Preston Rhne lineup: hibiscus and wild strawberry on a buoyant, almost weightless frame, with a touch of Carignane folded in for grip. Decant it for an hour and the whole thing opens like a wildflower.
