Pierre Morey is best known for some of Meursault’s most precise whites, but the family also farms a small parcel of Pinot Noir in Monthelie – the modest village wedged between Volnay and Auxey-Duresses – and the same hand shapes the reds. Pierre’s twenty years (1988-2008) at Domaine Leflaive set the template; his daughter Anne is now fully in charge, and the cuvees differ mainly by new oak percentage. At the village level, the wine is a transparent, joyful read on red-fruited Cote de Beaune Pinot, with the Morey signature of clarity and lift. A serious wine at an unserious tier.
