Opus One Napa Valley 2021 pours as a Bordeaux-style red blend led by 93% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the Oakville bench, rounded out with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and a little Merlot and Malbec. The Mondavi-Rothschild partnership behind Opus One turned the 2021 harvest deep garnet: crushed cassis, wild blueberry, and black cherry lift into violet and baking spice, then a plush mid-palate of red and blue fruit rides fine-grained tannins. The wine closes on black tea, licorice, and dark chocolate. Structured and still young, it drinks well now with a few hours of decanting and holds a decade or more in the cellar pour it beside a ribeye or lay it down for patience.
