O Estranxeiro means “the foreigner” in Galician a nod to the fact that Eulogio Pomares is technically an outsider in Ribeira Sacra. Pomares made his name running Bodegas Zrate, his family’s celebrated Ras Baixas estate, before launching this project with his wife Rebeca Montero in 2019. Fruit comes from two contrasting sites slate-and-granite slopes above the Sil in Amandi, and granite-driven Atlantic-cooled vineyards above the Mio in A Cova. Mostly Menca, farmed organically (a serious commitment in Galicia’s rain), fermented with wild yeasts in chestnut botti and concrete, then aged in old wood. Vivid, terroir-honest, alive.
