2022 Release

This is a special edition of single malt from the Yoichi distillery, Nikka’s first distillery built in 1934. The founder Masataka Taketsuru, known as the father of Japanese whisky, chose Yoichi in Hokkaido because of the similar environmental conditions to Scotland, where he learned whisky-making. Yoichi single malts have pleasant peaty notes and smokiness originating from the traditional direct coal-fired distillation as well as a briny hint delivered by the sea breeze during the aging process.

The Yoichi ‘Grande’ further brings out the unique characteristics of the heavy peated malt spirit and new barrel-aged malt spirit that underpin the powerful, full-bodied flavor of “Single Malt Yoichi.” It features a rich, mature aroma and gentle sweetness, a harmonious blend of mellow fruit aromas, a soft, smoky aroma, a malty aroma and bitter peat, a rich body, a subtle oak sweetness and a woody, full-bodied finish.
