HOW:Using a blend of roughly 30% single malt from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano, and 70% grain whisky (previously contracted from elsewhere, but now partially distilled on site), the Iwai brings classic blended whisky suaveness with additional richness and texture.

WHAT:Iwai is named after Kiichiro Iwai, who originally helped commission Masataka Taketsuru’s travel to Scotland in 1918 in order to learn more about whisky distillation. When Taketsuru returned years later their professional relationship ended, andTaketsuru would go on to build Suntorys Yamazaki Distillery, and eventually found the Nikka company.But Iwai kept Taketsurus notes and eventually built the Mars company’s distillery to the original specifications. Iwai 45 is bottled at 45% ABV.
