A collaboration between Islay’s Lagavulin distillery and actor and whisky fan Nick Offerman, the Offerman Edition Charred Oak Cask is an 11-year single malt Scotch matured in heavily charred ex-bourbon and ex-red wine casks. That combination layers dark fruit over the distillery’s signature coastal peat. The nose is peaty and rich with chocolate, treacle, and red berry; the palate runs pungent and woody with cocoa, spice, and sweet berry; the finish lands warm, spicy, and long. The extra char and wine-cask influence give it a sweeter, more brooding character than the core 16-year. Pour it neat with a few drops of water, after dinner or alongside a medium-rare steak, as the distillery suggests.
