Twenty years in refill American oak hogsheads shaped this Longmorn 1999, a cask-strength Speyside single malt Scotch from Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice range. Longmorn is a distillery blenders have prized for over a century, and ex-bourbon wood lets the house character run: orchard fruit, citrus and vanilla cream at the front, apricot and baked-pastry sweetness behind, a peach-and-spice finish that stretches out. Bottled non-chill filtered at natural color and full cask strength as batch 20/028, the whisky wears its two decades lightly more fruit than oak. Independent bottlings of Longmorn at this age move quickly when they surface. Take it slow: a heavy tumbler, a few drops of water, an unhurried evening.
