Don Melchor 2018 is a single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto, in Chile’s Alto Maipo Valley. The blend runs 91% Cabernet Sauvignon rounded out with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, aged 15 months in French oak, 72% of it new. Winemaker Enrique Tirado calls 2018 one of the greatest vintages in the estate’s history, and the critics agreed James Suckling scored it a perfect 100 points. Expect small red fruits, blackcurrant, and floral lift over fine-grained tannins, with a long, refined finish. This is a wine that drinks beautifully now with an hour in the decanter; give it a proper steak, or cellar it for another decade.
