Old-vine Menca from Bierzothe collaboration between lvaro Palacios (of Priorat fame) and his nephew Ricardo Prez Palacios. Established in 1998, the project set out to find Bierzo’s finest old hillside and hilltop vineyards. ‘Ptalos’ refers to petals on a flower: each vineyard parcel contributes one petal to the whole. The Vias Viejas designation signals the oldest vines, grown on slate soils at Bierzo’s western edge. If you know lvaro’s Priorat work, this is his equivalent vision for northwest Spain’s most exciting red grape.
