Del Maguey Mezcal Barril 98 is a single-village mezcal made from 100% Espadin agave. It is produced in the village of San Luis del Rio in Oaxaca, Mexico. The agave is cooked in an underground pit oven, then crushed with a horse-drawn tahona wheel. The juice is fermented in open-air wooden vats and double-distilled in copper stills. The mezcal is bottled at 98 proof. It has a smoky aroma with notes of cooked agave, citrus, and herbs. On the palate, it is smooth and smoky with a hint of sweetness. The finish is long and lingering with a hint of spice.
