When CVNE launched Contino in the 1970s, as the Franco era wound down, it was a genuine gamble: a single-estate, single-vineyard Rioja at a time when the region’s identity was built on blending across many sites. It became one of Spain’s great names. For decades, longtime winemaker Jesus Madrazo proved that Rioja’s terroir could deliver fresh fruit and real power without giving up the region’s signature balance and elegance.
