Vispavola is Colombera & Garella’s only wine without a drop of Nebbiolo 100% Vespolina, the spicy, perfumed indigenous variety of Alto Piemonte. The grapes come from reddish-brown porphyritic volcanic sands, the ancient soils of Bramaterra, which give the wine a particularly acidic mineral edge and lift. The result is exactly what the name implies (vispa means lively): a spicy, light, aromatic red with a peppery snap and bright red-berry fruit the perfect little pasta or pizza wine, served with a slight chill if you like. A delicious window into one of Alto Piemonte’s most underrated grapes from one of the region’s best producers.
