Even back when Bordeaux was expensive, Chteau Potensac screamed out value. Sitting in the northern Mdoc just above Saint-Estphe, Potensac was overlooked in the 1855 classification like its neighbor Sociando-Mallet, but it produces better wine than plenty of Third and Fourth Growths. The Delon family farms it with the same crew responsible for Loville Las Cases. As global warming reshapes Bordeaux, this cooler site has become newly relevant: Potensac can more easily produce the classically-styled Bordeaux that so many of us miss. The 2008 is exactly that wine, fully mature, savory and refined.
