Petit Village sits on the high plateau of Pomerol, in serious company near the appellation’s greatest estates, on deep gravel over a bed of iron-rich clay the locals call crasse de fer. What sets it apart is an unusually high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for Pomerol, giving structure you don’t always find on the Right Bank. This 2005 comes from one of Bordeaux’s benchmark vintages and now has two decades behind it. Fully mature and gently evolved, it’s medium-bodied and elegant, showing roasted herb, espresso and dark berry over velvety tannins. A ready-to-drink Pomerol from a great year.
