The 2014 Lafleur is 56% Cabernet Franc and 44% Merlot an unusual ratio anywhere in Pomerol, where Merlot typically dominates. 2014 was the late-ripening Cabernet’s year on the Right Bank, and that shows in this bottle: the Cab Franc signs with bright red berry, floral aromas, and a distinct minerality that sets Lafleur apart from its plusher neighbors. The Guinaudeau family farms 4.5 hectares of old vines just across from Petrus, and the wine is still youthful give it another five or six years to fully open, then expect a long peak.
