Chteau du Glana was established in the late 19th century in the heart of Saint-Julien.The estate took its modern form in 1961, when it was acquired by Gabriel Meffre, whosignificantly expanded the vineyard through the purchase of neighboring parcels,including land formerly belonging to Chteau Lagrange. Located in the heart of Saint-Julien, Chteau du Glana benefits from a privileged terroir of deep Garonne gravel soilsthat provide excellent drainage and natural regulation of vine vigor. The 59.5 hectareestate, planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon with a sizable proportion ofMerlot, enjoys ideal exposure and proximity to some of the appellations most renownedclassified growths. The 2018 vintage was marked by a challenging start to the growingseason, followed by a warm, dry summer with cool nights, allowing for a rapid andhomogeneous vraison and the development of exceptional balance, freshness, andaromatic precision.

Critically acclaimed

Blackcurrant, blackberry, pencil-lead, cedar and dark-chocolate aromas. Some vanillabean, too. Its medium-to full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Tight and concentrated.Better from 2025.

A good estate to note down. Brothers Ludovic and Julien Meffre are making goodwines here outside of the classified rankings that dominate the appellation. It has atouch of hedgerow in it, which in my mind is shorthand for not being over-polished, soyou still get a sense of vibrancy but of actually being made by someone, not pulled off aconveyor belt. It’s not the most sumptuous 2018 that you’re going to find, but it’s beautifully enjoyable, full of vigor and displays the ripe fruit of the vintage.
