One of Graves’ great chteaux, with vines planted on the region’s famous deep gravels. Carbonnieux Rouge is Cab Sauv-led, classically Pessac in profile fine tannins, freshness, integrated oak, and what we’d call luxury without weight. Where the 2018 is dense and powerful, the 2019 is the more classical, balanced sibling of that vintage pair: ripe but lifted, with seamless tannins, fresher aromatics, and a long, elegant finish. The chteau itself recommends pairing the reds with fowl, swordfish, and tuna they’re more versatile than serious Bordeaux is supposed to be.
