The second wine of Margaux Third Growth Chteau Cantenac Brown, named for the cheerful brio of its more open, fruit-forward style. The blend leans Merlot in this cuve (with the usual support of Cabernet Sauvignon and a dash of Cabernet Franc), and it’s aged with a lighter touch on new oak generally around 20% to keep the fruit front and center. The 2019 is a beautiful vintage for Margaux, and this captures it nicely: violets, red cherry, a brush of cedar, silky tannins, and that aromatic lift that’s the calling card of the appellation.
