The second wine of Chteau Cantemerle the traditionalist Fifth Growth on the Margaux border whose grand vin is one of the only Grand Cru Classs that can honestly be called old-school Bordeaux. Les Alles is drawn mostly from the younger vines, vinified with the same hands-off methods the estate has always used (concrete vats, no new-oak overload), and it shows the same gravelly Haut-Mdoc character as the grand vin in a more open, earlier-drinking frame. The 2016 vintage, classical and structured, gives it real spine. A genuinely correct claret at an honest price the kind of bottle a Bordeaux drinker can pour midweek without thinking twice.
