Les Damodes is where the slope gets steep, the topsoil runs thin, and Nuits stops being heavy. It sits high on the hill at the commune’s northern edge, with limestone close enough to the surface that you can practically taste it and that elevation buys freshness. This is one of the leanest, most aromatic premiers crus in Nuits, built on tension rather than muscle, and Chantereves’ hands-off approach – sustainably farmed fruit, whole clusters, nothing but used oak – is exactly what it wants. The 2024 shows cranberry and sour cherry, crushed rock, dried herbs, and a saline snap on the finish. Serve it a few degrees below room temperature and it sings.
